Sustainable Living as Spiritual Practice

At the root of all religious and spiritual paths is a reverence for Creation and an acknowledgement of the human responsibility to care for the Earth.

This course will examine the teachings of the major religions regarding the human relationship to the natural world. It will also consider modern iterations of ancient Earth-wisdom such as deep ecology, eco-theology and creation spirituality. With this review of the deeply rooted spiritual ties between humanity and all life forms as a foundation, we can approach our own practices of sustainability as forms of worship, gratitude and sacrifice: thus, we make sacred our lives.
